Staro Brezje (German: Altfriesach) is a settlement in the hills to the east of the town of Kočevje in southern Slovenia. It was a village inhabited by Gottschee Germans. In 1941 at the start of the Second World War its original population was expelled. The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included in the Southeast Slovenia statistical region.[2]
The local church, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, was a mid 17th century building that survived the Second World War, but was demolished in 1955.[3]
